National Art Honor Society Winter Issue 2018 – NHS Art in the News
The Sheboygan North High School is happy to announce its first appearance in the Winter Issue of NAHS News. This issue highlights NAHS chapters throughout the U.S. and members’ artworks.

Things that we’ve been up to
The NHS NAHS members started their first mural. This new mural is titled, “Be the Next Generation”. This mural will inspire others to put their best foot forward to make a difference in the lives of others.
Announcement: Wisconsin Art Education Association North East Regional Art Exhibition
The Sheboygan North High School Art Department is pleased to announce that seven art students have been selected to represent our department at the 2019 North East Regional Art Exhibition at the Neville Public Museum in Green Bay. The North East Regional Art Exhibition is part of Youth Art Month hosted by the Wisconsin Art Education Association. Out of 150 students artworks about a third will be advancing to the state art exhibition in Madison in March. Students that are advancing are Megan Bruinooge, Julia Gozdziewski, Destiny Lee, Amber Shaw, and Sara Vang,

Stamped featured in the January 2019 Issue of SchoolArts Magazine
Drawing Intensive students are wrapped up their unit on their large scale postage stamps, which are on exhibit at the Sheboygan Post Office next month. This display will run from December 20 through February 2019. Students were encouraged to develop their own theme and to use 3 out of the 9 colored pencil techniques to apply to their original large scale postage stamps.
NHS art published in SchoolArts Magazine February 2019 Issue
Congratulations Abbey X for having her drawing published in the February 2019 issue of SchoolArts Magazine. Abbey is currently an Art Foundations 3 student.
Scholastic Art Exhibition: Honorable Mention, No. 11
Junior Lillyrose Butterfield has received an Honorable Mention in the 2019 Scholastic Art Exhibition for her denim jacket titled No. 11 in the category of Fashion. Her jacket will be on display in the Library at Sheboygan North. Over 1,500 pieces of art were submitted. About 400+ pieces received recognition.

National Art Honor Society visits the John Michael Kohler Arts Center
The Sheboygan North High National Art Honor Society was created to offer our students with unique opportunities to engage in the local arts community. As part of a growing partnership with the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, North NAHS students and the South High Art Club were introduced to Lenny who works in the Collections Department. He shared his experience working in the Collections Department and the many tasks that his job entails. After the presentation, they had a sneak peek to where the ‘magic’ happens. The evening concluded with a tour of the recent exhibitions led by Xoe, Education Coordinator.
We will be visiting again in early February to hear curators talk about their role at JMKAC.

SPANISH 5: THE STUDY OF SPANISH ARTISTS
After studying Spanish art, Spanish 5 students will replicate a masterpiece of the artist of their choice. Using the Spanish language, students will present their work to the class, telling us why they chose that particular artist and piece. They will teach us background information about the artist as well as analyze the masterpiece. The genres students chose included etching, painting, murals, architecture and photography.
These works are on view at the NHS ARTifacts Gallery, 2nd floor.
