The fabulous Katie E. Martin-Meurer from UW-Milwaukee visits North High Art Department

Today, we had the pleasure to have a visit from the fabulous Katie E. Martin-Meurer (UW-Milwaukee). She talked to my Drawing Intensive students about the UW-Milwaukee Peck School of the Arts. This marks the 4th year that she has come to engage my students in life after high school as well as informing them on the great art programs offered at UW-Milwaukee.

Introducing student created postage stamps

The Drawing Intensive art students were instructed to create a large format (16×20″) USPS postage stamp based on themes given by the art teacher or better yet they could propose their own idea. These student created postage stamps have become a tradition with the Sheboygan post office. These stamps will be on display over the holidays starting in late November 2012.

In the meantime, here is a slideshow of their work.

Celebrating 75 Years of Excellence | North High Art Department

Saturday, September 29 marked North High’s 75 year anniversary celebration. To commemorate this milestone the North High Art Department facilitated a community-based mural. This was one of many opportunities to get involved in painting this mural designed by Sheboygan native, Dale Knaak.

A special thank you to our principal, Mr. Jason Bull, for giving us the opportunity to share our passion with others.

Stay tuned for a listing of upcoming painting opportunities. No experience necessary. If you can hold a brush, then you can paint.

North High Art Department Splatter Paint

North High Art Department participated in North High’s 2012 Lip Dub celebrating 75 years of Excellence. A portion of this splatter painting will be included in the official North High Lip Dub. We just happened to document this unique experience with our fabulous art students.

The song used in this video is not part of North High’s Lip Dub video.

Ready to Rock-n-Roll with the 75th Anniversary Mural

The mural design is finally sketched onto three (3) 5foot by 10foot aluminum panels. Yesterday was a looooong day, but well worth the time. Now, we get to invite the community to participate in painting this mural designed by Dale Knaak of Sheboygan.

The North High Art Department will be inviting the community once a month (a Saturday) to add his or her brushstroke to the mural commemorating 75 years of Excellence. In the meantime, join us on Saturday, September 29th from 9am to 11am to begin this journey.

We will be listing those dates very soon.

Op Art Revisited

AP Portfolio I students are in the process of creating their very own Op Art painting on a stretched canvas. This project will involve students coming up with ideas on how to create their own Op Art painting via studies and color selection. Students will then learn how to stretch and gesso their own canvas. Students will be introduced to masking and hard edge as well as to artists such as Victor Vasarely and Bridget Riley.
