Art Foundations 3 required before taking Art Foundations 4
The second year of Art Foundations will provide the student with a more in-depth approach to media explored in two and three-dimensional design. Students will build on basic techniques and skills learned in Art Foundations 1 & 2. Students will be given the opportunity to explore new media as well. This course will focus on composition stressing the fundamentals of materials and ideas used in art (principles and elements of design). Course work is based on state and district standards adopted for the art curriculum. Both first and second semester will offer exploration in two and three-dimensional design. Possible media explored: painting, textiles, drawing, pen and ink, print making and ceramics. Course will include artist research, art vocabulary, concepts, exploration of various cultures, self and group critiques. Students should expect tests and quizzes on techniques, art vocabulary and concepts. Research papers are required. Students are required to keep an active sketchbook. Students are responsible for all handouts and note taking. Students will have the opportunity to attend art exhibits.
